I'm a Little Seed

Listen to the whole song on Tiny Tunes or hear it here:

Spring has sprung, and we can sing about it and act it out! This simple song, to the tune of "I'm a Little Teapot" helps children understand the process of germination in 4 lines! Be sure to give them a visual – draw a picture, make a felt board (below), or get a small pot, some soil, a seed – and watch your child grow as they watch the plant emerge.

Lyrics:

I'm a little seed in the dark, dark ground
Out comes the sun, yellow and round
Down comes the cool rain, soft and slow
Up! the seed begins to grow!

Spoken: What kind of plant did you grow into?

(repeat song again)

Movements:

Line 1: Curl up on the floor on your knees, tuck arms in
Line 2: Sit up, put arms over head to make a "sun"
Line 3: Wiggle fingers as hands move downward like the rain
Line 4: Stretch up tall, or stand, hands reaching for the sky!

Age Range: 1.5 – 5 years old

Purpose: Movement, exercising, pretending

Make a "Little Seed" feltboard

Cut the shapes below out of felt and put on a felt board, or cut them out of construction paper to paste on a paper. Glob of brown dirt. Small black seed. Green stem. Yellow circle for sun. White or light blue raindrops. Flower of your choice!
