Dancing is fun for children of all ages, and it stimulates memory, pattern, sequence, social interaction and coordination! Learning to do a circle dance such as "Looby Loo" encourages children to move together cooperatively, which is a good thing for Toddlers through Kindergarteners! Be sure to practice walking in a circle before turning on the music – or better yet, DON'T turn on the music – just sing! It may take a moment to get all the hands connected, and that's OK! That's what the OHHHH's are for!
Lyrics: | Here we go looby loo I put my hand in, (repeat chorus, alternate additional verses: foot, head, backside, whole self!) |
Movements: | Walk in a circle while singing the looby loos, stand still for the verses. Be sure to sing it slowly enough for all the children to be able to do the motions. Perhaps the first time only do hand, foot and whole self – add more as the children are ready! |
Age Range: 2 – 5 years old!
Purpose: Cooperative movement, group dynamics, Memory, Pattern, Sequence (3 pre-reading skills!) and socialization.
Other Circle Dances: "B-I-N-G-O!" (on H.U.M. - Highly Usable Music), "Here We Go 'Round the Mulberry Bush", "Ring Around the Rosey" and "Somebody's Waiting For Me" (coming on my new Dancing Feet! cd this Fall!)
