Mother Nature!

I have not recorded this little poem, but it is a big hit with my 4's and older, so I thought you'd enjoy it, too! It's a spoken rhyme with gestures to act out the text. Have fun with it – do it with a twinkle in your eye and "drama" in your voice! It's helpful to talk about "Mother Nature" – is she real, pretend, or is she a phrase that covers the force that is all nature? You choose how to characterize her.

I do not know where I learned this poem – if anyone knows the author, please contact me. I'd like to give credit where it's due!

The Poem:

Red leaves, orange leaves, yellow leaves, brown. Big leaves, little leaves, crinkled on the ground! Everywhere are falling leaves – Mother Nature, did you sneeze? ahhh-choo!

Movements:

Line 1: Patsch knees on the beat Line 2: Spread hands wide, then make them almost touch. Then pat floor quickly. Line 3: Swirl hands overhead Line 4: Questioning hands our to sides, then big fakey sneeze into your elbow!

Age Range: Older 3's - 6 year olds really get the humor of this chant!

Purpose: rhythmic beat, gross motor movement, humor!
