The Apple Tree

Way up high in the apple tree  One little apple smiled at me!  I shook that tree as hard as I could  Down came the apple – Mmmm, it sure looks good!  (repeat with another smiling apple) Two little apples under the tree  One for you, and one for me  Two little apples, crunch crunch crunch!  Two little apples, let's eat them for our lunch! YUM

Tune: Loosely based on "In a Cottage By the Wood."

A visual makes any song more fun and engaging. For "The Apple Tree" I painted a green, leafy tree with sponges and fabric paint on a piece of flannel (which is washable!), then attached it to a bulletin board with staples. Red, green and yellow felt apples can be put on the tree. I sneak a few "smiley" apples on to flip over as a surprise during the song. Let your child(ren) find one smiley apple before each verse! 

OR  Draw a tree on paper and make construction paper apples (good cutting practice for pre-schoolers and older.) Do the song with paper on a flat surface, as above .

Age Range: 2 – 6 years old

Purpose: Color identification (apples), counting to 2, and seasonal discussion
