The Pirate Song

Listen to the whole song on H.U.M - Highly Usable Music or hear it here:

Ahoy, Mateys! September 19th is international "Talk Like A Pirate Day!" Shiver me timbers, did'ya not know that? Blimey! Yes, indeed, it's a blast to talk like a pirate, wear an eye-patch and sing a good pirate song... and this one's a hit! You can do it sitting down or standing up (of course Miss Carole prefers the latter, ARRRRR!) Use your own verses – it's good practice for 4's and up to find other rhyming words for the numbers. When I was two I found a clue... Ayyyy!

When I was one I had some fun on the day I went to sea
I jumped aboard a pirate ship, and the captain said to me
"Now you go this way, that way, forward, backward
Over the deep blue sea!"

Additional verses:
2. When I was TWO I tied my SHOE
3. When I was THREE I climbed a TREE
4. When I was FOUR I shut the DOOR
5. When I was FIVE I learned to DIVE
. . . with older children - go up to TEN if you'd like!

You can make up your own, or use these:

When I was one I had some fun on the day I went to sea (hold up one finger)
I jumped aboard (jump) a pirate ship (hold one hand over your eye)
And the captain said to me (salute with same hand that was the "patch")
"Now you go this way, (lean right) that way, (lean left)
forward, (lean forward) backward (lean backward)
Over the deep blue sea!" (make ocean waves with both hands in front of you)

Age Range: 4 - 8 years old (if you really slow it down, 3's can do it, too!)

Purpose: counting, rhyming words, gross motor movement, AND JUST PLAIN FUN!!!
